Why your SEO traffic grew but leads didn't
A content strategy can genuinely succeed at growing organic traffic, more sessions, more keywords ranking, more impressions in Search Console, while the business sees no corresponding increase in qualified leads. This isn't a contradiction; it's usually evidence that the traffic being won and the traffic that converts are different audiences.
The common cause is a content strategy that chased volume rather than commercial intent: informational, top-of-funnel content ranks more easily and in higher volume than commercial content, so a traffic-focused strategy naturally drifts toward exactly the keywords least likely to produce a lead, even as the traffic chart looks like unambiguous success.
The diagnostic is straightforward: segment organic traffic by the commercial intent of the landing page, and check whether growth is concentrated in informational content with no clear path to a lead, versus commercial and product-adjacent pages that actually have a conversion mechanism on them.
More traffic is not, by itself, a business result. It's a leading indicator that only matters if a meaningful share of it lands on pages built to convert, and a content strategy that's optimized purely for traffic growth will, with some reliability, produce exactly this gap between the two metrics.
