TikTok and Meta aren't the same game: why the same creative fails on both

It's tempting to treat TikTok and Meta as interchangeable inventory for the same creative, especially once a format works well on one. The platforms reward fundamentally different viewing behavior, and creative built for one's native feel routinely underperforms on the other, no matter how strong the underlying offer is.

Meta's feed still rewards a recognizable ad grammar, a clear hook, a clean product shot, a value proposition stated early, because users are scrolling with some awareness they're seeing ads. TikTok's feed rewards content that doesn't read as an ad at all for the first two to three seconds, because the platform's whole design trains users to skip anything that announces itself as a pitch immediately.

The accounts that perform well on both build two versions from the same creative brief rather than one asset repurposed across platforms: the TikTok cut leads with native-feeling hook footage and delays the sell, the Meta cut front-loads the value proposition the way feed users expect. Production cost goes up slightly; performance on both platforms goes up more.

Treating the platforms as one distribution channel with two logos is the fastest way to make both perform worse than either would with creative actually built for how people watch there.
